A new theme engine will be hitting mobile screens in September 2021 with android 12. And here is how to enable themed icons in Android 12. Material You is a new global theming engine for Android. And its third beta release extends that design scheme to icons.
Material You is the UX reboot our phones needed to come in line with the latest global trends. With Material Design looking outdated, Google decided to finally apply a fresh coat to the UI. The most awesome feature to come with this reboot is how the theme is dynamically based on whatever home screen wallpaper you’ve set.
How to Enable themed icons in Android 12
The Material You dynamic theming doesn’t just apply to widgets and app interfaces. As of Android 12 beta 3, that dynamic system extends to icons. With this new feature, you’ll find monochrome icons that now match the global Material You theme.
It’s actually quite a wonderful addition to the new theming engine and should please the eyes and make your phone more elegant to look at. But before you start digging for themed icons it should be understood that not every app has a Material You-ready icon.
As Material You is only available in Android 12, you must have the latest beta release on your device. Once we have that sorted then it’s time to enable the themed icons. Long-press the home screen of your device. A menu will pop up, tap Wallpaper & Style. Here you will have a lot of other theme options aswell.
Scroll to the bottom of the resulting page and then toggle the On/Off slider for Themed icons. Once done you’ll see the new monochrome icons are re-themed to match the global UI. Wasn’t that hard but still, you will have a unique-looking menu that matches your phone’s ascent.
