For all the avid TikTokers out there now you can create longer videos on TikTok. In the latest update to the short video app, TikTok is rolling out the option to create longer videos. The expanded format will give creators more flexibility and reduce the need for multi-part posts.
When the app was first launched, it only allowed users to post videos up to 15 seconds long. Last year, the limit was increased to 60 seconds. While users on Instagram Reels were able to upload videos up to 30 seconds long.
Until now, longer videos on TikTok were only available to a few top creators. The company believes creators will now have the “canvas to create new or expanded types of content.” And with support for longer videos, creators on the platform finally have more flexibility to show their content properly similarly to YouTube.

The company said that the option to create longer videos will roll out to everyone “over the coming weeks.” Once it becomes available, you will receive a notification in the TikTok app. Users will also be able to upload three-minute videos to TikTok from your desktop computer.
TikTok didn’t say how longer clips might affect its recommendation algorithm. But it’s worth considering the possible parallels to YouTube: as the platform grew, YouTube biased its algorithm toward viewer retention, which meant longer and longer videos. That’s why just about everything on YouTube is over 10 minutes long now.
