Today’s smartphones are improving day by day and so are the worries of elders when using them. But you can set up a Smartphone for your Grandparents in a way so that they can use it easily and efficiently. Even if they have no experience with tech, you can still make phone life easier just with a few tweaks.
Simplifying the mechanism of the android phone interface before you hand it over to an elder person can greatly improve the way they use it in their daily life. Such as keeping things simple on the home screen. With fewer icons and uninstalling anything, they won’t use regularly would be a good first step.
How to Set up a Smartphone for your Grandparents
Start by removing unwanted apps that you think your grandparents will not need in their daily retired routine life. To uninstall an app Tap and hold on an icon, then drag it away to the Uninstall or Remove wording, at the top of the screen.
Place shortcuts on the home screen is also a good idea. It makes it easier for them to call or message their closest contacts with a single tap. Tap and hold on to the home screen and select Widgets.
Then scroll down to Contacts, choose Direct dial, and select a contact. You can place the shortcut anywhere on the home screen, and they can call that person simply by tapping it.
Increasing the font size is also one of the most important steps because it helps with eyesight. Just go to Settings, Display, and choose Font size, then drag the slider to adjust. You can also get there via Settings, Accessibility, then Font size.
Try using a Simple Launcher
On Android phones, you can change the “launcher,” which determines the look of the whole interface, including things like app icons and font size.
On Samsung phones, you have an alternative launcher option called Easy Mode built-in. To toggle it on go to Settings, Display, and choose Easy Mode.
Plus don’t forget to enable phone tracking because elderly people who are new to carrying a smartphone might be prone to forgetting it until they build a habit. So enabling the find my device feature might turn out to be a lifesaver.
You can also share your grandparent’s phone location with yourself in the Maps app. Tap your Profile at the top right, then Location sharing, and New share. Choose the contact, set the time to Until you turn this off, and tap Share.
